The international film festival revolutionising how activism is seen: Mov(i)e Activism
Mov(i)e Activism is a ‘nomadic’ international documentary film festival which aims at showcasing different forms of socio-political activism through film.
As a ‘nomadic’ international film festival Mov(i)e Activism operates within nine different locations in eight different countries on a local and international basis. Their hope is to connect an international network of video activists and establish ‘intercultural cooperation’ among people from around the globe. At a local level, Mov(i)e Activism aims at promoting ‘harmonious coexistence’ within the community through awakening them to world issues through film. Notably, the organisers of each location tailor the festival towards their community, picking films that may challenge or be of interest to that community.
In this way, the festival is an invaluable resource in connecting those who wish to learn about film activism to those who practice film activism. Through the use of local screenings, film activism is demystified. The community is encouraged to engage with activism and film activists, promoting a community-based conversation around film. Separate from the screenings, individuals interested in learning more about film activism are encouraged to attend Q&A’s with directors. More so, the festival is a free event ensuring that all those interested in using film for activism can attend.
Mov(i)e Activism’s structure will be especially useful to those wishing to learn about film activism through a communal environment.
