Class Exercise 6th November 2018

Aiko and Ambai serves as an excellent example of process over product and further how community development can be integrated into media. The film places an importance on accessibility, through how its produced by local community members, touring throughout the area for auditions, and using the movie to train future filmmakers. The emphasis is not on the movie or the filmmaker in isolation, but how the film functions to spread awareness of disenfranchised communities and encourage future filmmaking as a whole. The film was screened throughout Papua New Guinea, Australia, and film festivals. Accessibility was not just important in the Papua New Guinea area but throughout the globe, this was practiced on social media. This accessibility and emphasis on community was demonstrated on the film’s Facebook page.
